Celtic beat the Tommy Burns Select 11 - 4 in an entertaining game. Caldwell put Celtic 1 - 0 up after 5 minutes with a run from defence, a one-two with Maloney and then a chip over Bonner. McDonald made it 2 - 0 after 8 minutes when he beat the offside trap, latched on to a Maloney ball and slotted the ball past Bonner. The Tommy Burns Select made it 2 - 1 after 14 minutes when Cadete's shot went in off Brown's post. It was 2 - 2 after 17 minutes when Keane headed home a McKinlay cross. The Tommy Burns Select were playing well and created a couple of half chances but Celtic made it 3 - 2 after 21 minutes when McDonald volleyed past Bonner. It was 4 - 2 after 31 minutes when Vennegoor of Hesselink scored form close range. Van Hooijdonk forced Brown in to a fine save but Caldwell got his second, and Celtic's 5th after 43 minutes.
In the second half McGeady made it 6 - 2 as he rolled his shot past Kerr after 49 minutes. Donati got Celtic's 7th after 53 minutes with a fine chip and Ferry made it 8 - 2 after 57 minutes from the penalty spot. Naylor got Celtic's 9th after 73 minutes. Hartson made the score 9 - 3 with a superb chip over Brown which went in off the crossbar and Donnelly should have scored soon after but Brown saved. Naylor got his second, and Celtic's 10th after 83 minutes with a fine chip. Feruz forced a save from Brown but Walker knocked the follow up in to the net after 84 minutes. Naylor completed his hat-trick after 87 minutes making it 11 - 4 and that was that.
This was an entertaining game, as was always going to be the case, and was a fitting tribute to Tommy Burns.
